I had always wanted to try out a rainbow cake...my dad's birthday was coming up and I thought let's give this a go! What better excuse :) I got a book from amazon and off I went!
I got to work and made my cake mixture, I split it six ways into plastic bowls and then went about adding the gel colour to the mixtures.
This was great fun and I was really pleased at how vivid the colours came out.
Once they were mixed and cooked, I let them all cool before starting to layer up. All pretty standard, with a nice crumb coat to seal all the multi-colour layers in before adding the final buttercream layer.
I mixed up some yummy buttercream again I fancied the ombré effect as I had an idea of making it look like the sea, as my dad is into boats, and so I again split the buttercream and did three shades of blue buttercream.
In the meantime I made some sugar numbers, sea and a boat to top the cake.
Then assembled...it was great fun and tasted so good too! The six layers was a bit much to each all together so we tended to split three layers each so each slice served two people.
Great fun project everyone should have a go at some day.
How great does that look!
