Iceland Introduction

Iceland has become a pretty popular destination lately - I like to think we were a little earlier to the trend than most, we took the plunge for a fun filled activity holiday back in September 2015 and wow it was so much fun and so unlike many holidays you will normally find yourself on.

We travelled with Discover the World and booked everything from flights, transfer, trips and hotel with them - not really knowing a lot about Iceland at this point I felt it was the safest way to travel and not get stung if we had travel delays or weather problems which caused trips to be cancelled or re-scheduled.

We stayed at the Alda hotel in Downtown Reykjavik.  It was a modern hotel which was out of the hub but close enough to walk to dinner and attractions easily.  One fun feature was that on check in, instead of a room phone, you got given a smartphone which you can take out with you and use for your data and local calls so booking dinner reservations and finding your way round couldn't have been made any easier!

The hotel was located on Reykjavik’s main shopping street, Laugavegur, which was within walking distance of restaurants, cafés, boutiques, shops and museums, basically we walked everywhere except to our trips where we were collected at the Reception.

It was about 15 minutes walk from the town centre and maybe the same again to the waterfront area.
