The Power of Matcha

Matcha

"Louise the tea taster says:
We like to think of it as a sort of superhero amongst teas, as it’s a super-concentrated green tea powder that’s packed with antioxidants and nutrients. teapigs matcha comes from the renowned Nishio region in Japan, where the tea leaves are grown under cover to produce lots of amino acids and chlorophyll (the bright green good stuff). The leaves are then dried and very slowly ground by granite to a very fine powder, which is then packed and sealed immediately, so as to lock in all the nutrients in. It’s been a ceremonial beverage drunk by Buddhist monks and royalty for over 900 years. But you needn’t feel foolish about the fact you’ve never heard of it before as, until now, virtually all matcha has been consumed within Japan."   Teapigs

So I started to try Matcha as a drink, adding to a shot of orange juice to mask the flavour slightly, and began to actually enjoy it, much to my own disbelief!

Then after buying a Macmillan Coffee morning cookery book, I noticed a Green Tea Cupcake recipe and though they were worth a go...really happy with the results, you actually add some Matcha powder into both the cake mixture and the icing but it was a lovely subtle flavour and they were a real hit with everyone who got to try them.  Lets just say they didn't last long!

I opted for a small twist of icing which was plenty and a dash of glitter to sparkle them up :)
