A spot of gardening

I really enjoy getting out in the fresh air and getting stuck in to a spot of gardening.

When I moved into my house the garden was basically a mud bath, a few months later it had turned into a weed jungle and so when I finally got my act together I got a patio and lawn laid and then I had lots of empty borders to fill.

I had *never* planted a whole garden before, and rarely planted up pots or hanging baskets but I did want a space I was proud of and could enjoy in those rare sunny british summer days.

So the project started there...

The first thing I got, even before the patio and lawn were done, was a David Austin rose called 'Lady of Shallot' which is really beautiful.  When I put this tiny specimin in I had no idea how to look after roses, what you have to do when the green fly attack or how to prune it over the winter - truth is I still don't really know BUT I do know it is coming on a treat and this will be its third year of flower with me and I just cant wait for the buds and flowers to start, so I must be doing something right.

next installment will show you the journey from mud to garden...
